Matt Reeves - Site Setting Out Engineer in Kent

The new 1.2km road is called Thomsett Way and runs from the A249 Neats Court roundabout to Rushenden Road. The aim is to regenerate and revitalise the area by encouraging investment, business growth and more jobs.  The major piece of infrastructure was funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the South East Development Agency (SEEDA), and Kent County Council.

  • Thomsett Way is the key piece of infrastructure to support the regeneration of Queenborough and Rushenden, as set out in the masterplan, ‘Queenborough & Rushenden Regeneration’
  • The road now opens up land for 2,000 homes, some 1,200 of which will be on HCA land.
  • There is a footway/cycleway along the length of Thomsett Way.
  • Three roundabouts along the route provide access to future development sites.
  • Work involved considerable environmental mitigation to clear and relocate protected species.
  • The railway bridge was a key element of the work. This was successfully completed, in partnership with Network Rail, without affecting rail services.
  • Jacobs designed the scheme and supervised the construction contract, while Birse Civil Engineering was the main contractor.
