Description of the Works
The construction of the third of six berths at the London Gateway Port. The project will provide an additional 400m of quay length as well as a stacking area for up to 10,000 containers. A multi-discipline project involving, amongst other items, 6,000 cubic meters of Pavement Quality concrete slabs, 5 km of crane rails, in excess of 1,500 reinforced concrete structures, 28 km of ducting and drainage.
Upon completion quay cranes will be able to unload the world’s largest container ships at Berth 3. These containers will then be stacked in the holding area, or loaded on to HGVs using Automated Stacking Cranes.
Key Challenges
Extremely high specification project within a relatively small site in an especially short program. Logistics, quality assurance, and planning are undoubtedly going to prove essential in the successful delivery of the project.
