Description of works
The design and build for the London Gateway Project which aims to increase the traffic capacity of the A13 / A1014 junction sufficiently to offset the traffic that may be generated by London Gateway Port and Logistics Park.

The London Gateway Project comprises a deep water port, a logistics and commercial park, and a new access road linking the park to The Manorway (A1014) at Sorrel’s Roundabout.

The key challenges include keeping all roads operational, variable ground conditions, major civil works adjacent to the operational highway.

The overall objective of the scheme is to widen the two lane circulatory section of the interchange to three lanes. The scheme comprises the following:

North Bridge
The existing north bridge accommodates two lanes of traffic at the roundabout. The bridge shall be widened to the south so that it can accommodate an additional lane of traffic.

South Bridge
The south bridge shall be demolished and replaced by a new wider bridge to the south of the current location, with provision for 3 lanes of traffic with associated verges and footways.

Manorway Rail Bridge
The A1014 shall be widened. This shall be achieved by modifications of the footway / parapet of the Manorway Rail Bridge to avoid the need to do work to or beneath the bridge or disrupt the railway and to avoid modification to the bridge embankment.
